Green Rural Community

Working With Local Communities to Protect Wildlife, Restore Forests, and Improve Livelihoods in Tanzania.

ABOUT GREEN RURAL COMMUNITY

Green Rural Community (GRC) is a registered non-government organization established on 15 April 2020 under NGO Act 2002 section 12(2) of Act No.24.

We work with communities living around protected areas to promote conservation, encourage sustainable resource use, and reduce human-wildlife conflict.

Our goal is to improve livelihoods while protecting forests, wildlife, water sources, and the natural environment for future generations.

Our Vision

To be a sustainable community mechanism for wildlife resources conservation and management in Tanzania.

Our Mission

To mobilize financial resources and support wildlife protection, conservation, management, development and the sustainable use of forest resources.

Our Core Values

We believe real change happens when compassion, honesty, and responsibility come together. Our core values guide our mission and keep us focused on meaningful, sustainable results.

What We Do

We support conservation and community development through the following initiatives.

🌱 Reforestation

We work with local communities to plant thousands of trees around water sources, forest edges, and village lands adjacent to protected areas. This helps restore degraded landscapes, protect soil fertility, improve air quality, support biodiversity, and reduce the effects of climate change. Our long-term goal is to rebuild natural habitats that can support both wildlife and community livelihoods.

🐝 Beekeeping

We promote sustainable beekeeping as a practical income-generating activity and an important environmental practice. By training beekeepers, providing equipment, and establishing safe beehive locations, we help communities increase honey production, enhance crop pollination, and build conservation awareness. Beekeeping strengthens local economies while encouraging people to protect the forests that support bee populations.

🌍 Conservation Education

We deliver environmental education to schools, youth groups, and community members to build a strong culture of conservation. Through workshops, field training, meetings, and classroom programs, we teach the importance of wildlife protection, forest management, water conservation, and sustainable living. This knowledge empowers people to make informed decisions that protect their environment for future generations.

🤝 Community Development

We support programs that improve social and economic well-being, including public service improvements, youth empowerment, local group support, and access to resources. These initiatives help reduce poverty, create employment opportunities, and strengthen community stability. By linking development with conservation, we ensure that both people and nature thrive together.

Why Our Work Matters

GRC works to

Across Tanzania, forests and water sources are under pressure from charcoal burning, farming expansion, and deforestation. Wildlife habitat loss is increasing. By connecting conservation with community benefit, we build long-term solutions that protect both nature and livelihoods.

Africa

Tanzania

Where We Work

Our work is rooted in the Ipole–Sikonge area, where communities live directly along the borders of forest reserves and protected wildlife zones. Because these landscapes are at high risk of environmental degradation, this region offers substantial opportunity for conservation success, research collaboration, project investment, and long-term community partnerships.

Meet Our Team

Green Rural Community (GRC) is led by a committed team of local members who bring together experience in conservation, community development, financial planning, project management, and environmental education. Our strength comes from working closely with the communities we serve,  Listening, learning, and building programmes that meet real, local needs.

We believe in leadership that is present on the ground, connected to the people, and passionate about creating long-term environmental and social impact. Our team continues to grow as new partners, advisors, volunteers, and specialists join the organisation to support our mission.
